Rural Futures Profile

It is a brave new world for rural economies and there are lots of new opportunities.

Our name says it all. Our focus is rural and we help communities and enterprises get ready for the future, today. Each member of our Associates Team is a practitioner with deep connections to rural living.

New economies are emerging in rural British Columbia. They are fuelled by attraction to rural life, the Internet as a business platform and the globalization of business reach. Have you adapted your community development strategy to promote and enhance emerging economic development opportunities?

Rural areas will face new challenges, too. Chief among them will be a decrease in the mobility of people and goods as a price is put on carbon emissions and the cost of fossil fuels rise. We will see a reversal of some globalization trends. Manufacturing will return to North America. Economic re-localization – a renewed dependency on regional resources and production – is the trend for the next decade.
